Different Ways to Naturally Utilize Coconut Oil
Coconut oil should be praised as one of the seven wonders of the world. There are endless ways to use coconut oil as a healthy alternative from the frying pan to the bathroom shelf.
As a Body Oil
At whatever state, solid or liquid, you can use coconut oil as a body oil. The best time to moisturize is after a warm shower when your pores are open and willing to accept whatever gifts you want to lavish your skin with. Why not go for the natural alternative?
By replacing some generic body butter with coconut oil you’re ensuring your body only absorbs healthy and useful ingredients. If you feel like treating yourself with something a little extra, try adding some lavender oil when the coconut oil is in a liquid state and apply as generously as you feel like.
You can also use coconut oil as a body scrub. Add equal amounts of sugar or sea salt to coconut oil and scrub against any patches of dead or dry skin. This will exfoliate and hydrate your skin all at once, au’ naturally.
Under Eye Care
Why eye cream is so expensive these days is beyond me. A nice trick is to use coconut oil as a makeup remover at night. It swiftly wipes off any waterproof mascara or eyeliner while simultaneously moisturizing that sensitive patch of skin beneath your eyes.
Coconut oil has anti-aging properties and somehow, when you softly spread this oil beneath your eyes, you can almost feel its effects. Coconut oil will reduce puffy eyes, bags, or dark spots that often creep up under the eye after a poor night’s sleep. That’s a nice trick to avoid those unflattering comments people thoughtlessly make, “Everything okay? You look tired.” “Thanks?”
Oil Pulling aka Mouthwash
Coconut oil is said to drastically improve dental health. Oil pulling involves swishing and swooshing one tablespoon of coconut oil for 15-20 minutes in and around your mouth, rinse, and then brush your teeth. The coconut oil dissolves plaque and bacteria that hang out on the surface of your teeth. This will naturally whiten your teeth and reduce bad breath. That’s pretty great.
Oil for Your Hair
Of course when using any oil directly to your hair you should use it thoughtfully and sparingly, it is an oil after all. Coconut oil reduces the chances of protein loss which is what causes your hair to look dull and well, dead. It will also aid in the regrowth of any damaged hair. Coconut oil will hydrate your scalp reducing dandruff and is even said to prevent lice. That’s something to think about when sending your back to school after the winter break.
Promotes Weight Loss
Coconut oil contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that work to shed any extra weight you may be dolefully carrying. Coconut oil is easy to digest and increases the body’s metabolic rate. While we’re here, just as a generous suggestion, try frying eggs with coconut oil, it’s a dream team combination. You can also substitute coconut oil for butter when baking, say, brownies for instance, mmm…
You can use coconut oil anywhere really, from your dry lips to your cuticles. This will strengthen your nails gifting your hands with a youthful natural moisturizer.
Of course, for some people, the oil is too greasy for their pores to handle, better check it out and see how it works for you, it's most certainly worth a shot!
